Sustainability Cell
Sustainability is the foundation for a functioning system, driving social and economic progress with the environment at its core. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has prioritized the enhancement of the city's livability through targeted developments. In its City Strategy 2030, PCMC aims to emerge as India's most inclusive economic powerhouse and livable city by 2030.To further enhance the city's sustainability, PCMC is actively integrating social, environmental, and economic development. This integrated approach aims to foster community well-being, create a strong sense of place, and promote ecological economics. By addressing these interconnected aspects, PCMC is dedicated to delivering targeted improvements that will enhance the city's overall sustainability.
The Sustainability cell is thus established as part of the PCMC’s governance structure, which will serve as a crucial platform for evaluating the impact of projects on the city's sustainable growth.Additionally, the cell will foster collaboration and forge partnerships with technical experts and potential funding sources. By bringing together various departments, the cell will facilitate interdepartmental collaboration, a vital element in achieving sustainable development goals.
Framework of the cell
The structure of the Sustainability Cell is designed to encompass the fundamental elements of Sustainability, namely Social, Economic, and Environmental synergies. In alignment with the City Strategy's vision, the cell is organized into six verticals: Environment Conservation, Sustainable Transport and Mobility, Sustainable Urban Landscape, Disaster Resilience, Social Development and Inclusion, and Sustainable Finance and Innovation.
Each vertical focuses on specific monitoring areas that closely track the city's progress in these respective areas. This monitoring entails a comprehensive examination of ongoing and proposed initiatives at PCMC, ensuring a detailed understanding of the city's advancements. Importantly, all verticals cut across departments, emphasizing the critical roles of Knowledge Management and Citizen Engagement, which are essential and shared components among all six verticals and monitoring areas.
